Several of the world’s largest applications have stopped working. Applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp were hit by a problem that prevented the smooth operation of applications, causing problems for users.
The cause of this problem has not yet been identified, which has only affected some users, and it is also unknown whether the problems on all these platforms are linked. According to sources, the majority of users affected by this problem are in Europe, South and Latin America.
Facebook for its part acknowledged the problem but did not give any further information on what was caused.
Back in 2016, a similar attack was made to services that provided online material on the largest websites worldwide, including Reddit, Spotify and Twitter. This attack was soon followed by a Botnet, which took control of a large number of home appliances without the consent of the owners, putting the devices offline.
Botnet is a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which can quickly “break” the internet infrastructure by overloading the network.
