HiSilicon Kirin 980 is a Huawei, a tri-cluster layout with 7nm design, and a dual NPU silicon for machine learning. However, in the last few days they show their information about his successor, HiSilicon Kirin 985.
According to China Times, the new chipset will have 7nm EUV design, which is known as 7nm+ on the market. Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV) is a basic method of manufacturing chipset, which is expected to be the foundation for creating significantly smaller processors.
The name HiSilicon Kirin 985 has been confirmed by XDA Developers, who found reports of the new processor in its ancestor’s source, Kirin 980. Also, according to recent reports, HiSilicon Kirin 985 will debut with Huawei Mate 30.
The latest released processors offer single clock speed upgrades. Kirin 985 will not be able to compete with the successors of Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820, which will offer substantial changes.
In addition, China Times reports that for the time being, 45% of Huawei devices use HiSilicon processors, and the company aims to increase this figure to 60% in the second half of the year. As for its low-cost models, Huawei is currently based on MediaTek and Qualcomm processors.
