At this year’s MWC in Barcelona, Sony went on stage to showcase a series of smartphones. It was launched from its new flagship, which it calls Sony Xperia 1, which we previously believed would be called the XZ4 as the successor of the Xperia XZ3. Our smartphone is recommended with the world’s first 21: 9 Cinema Wide HDK 4K screen and the company’s first triple camera.
In addition, Sony announced three other devices at the event, Sony Xperia 10, Xperia 10 Plus and Xperia L3 smartphones. While the Xperia 10 models are in the middle class, the L-Series is more affordable and low-end smartphones. Noteworthy is that the first two display a 21: 9 screen, while the Xperia L3 comes with an 18: 9 aspect ratio display.
Xperia 1 – Specifications
The Xperia 1 is a flagship smartphone and comes with a 21: 9 aspect ratio display. The Cinema Wide OLED display of the flagship is a 6.5 inch diagonal and offers impressive 4K and HDR support. It is also supported by Sony’s BRAVIA X1 technology for deeper blacks and more natural colors. The glass design of the IP68 certified phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and front and rear. Inside, Sony’s latest flagship hosts the top SoC Snapdragon 855 backed by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Users can extend built-in storage up to 512GB using microSD cards. As for the software, Xperia 1 is inherently running Android 9 Pie.
Coming to the cameras, the Xperia 1 is the company’s first triple camera back camera. The camera installation consists of a triple 12-megapixel resolution sensor, a master RGB, a super wide-angle and a telephoto with OIS. The camera boasts the new Dual-Pixel technology, which can capture very good photos from moving objects even in low light conditions. Other camera features include 4K HDR video in 21: 9 cinema format, Cinema Pro for professional video capture, Full HD slow motion video, and much more. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel sniper at the front. A 3,300 mAh battery with quick charge support completes the flagship specification sheet.
Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus – Specifications
Beginning with the Xperia 10, they have almost the same design as their 21:9 aspect ratio screen. The dual rear camera is both in the middle and in a horizontal arrangement, and their fingerprint sensors are located on the right side of the devices. Both devices come with preinstalled Android 9 Piece software.
Where they differ, the Xperia 10 features a 6-inch Full HD screen and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset. The phone carries 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD cards.
In the field of photography, the Xperia X10’s dual rear camera has a 13-megapixel main lens and a 5 megapixel secondary lens, which comes with a Dual-LED flash unit. The camera can record 21:9 video and allow you to record deep / bokeh shots. For selfie and video calls, the smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel front camera. The device gets power from a 2.870 mAh battery. The Xperia 10 is offered in Navy Blue, Black, Silver and Pink color variations.
The Xperia 10 Plus, on the other hand, is equipped with a larger 6.5 inch 21:9 screen and FHD + resolution. Inside, there is a stronger eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage memory. For photography, the Xperia 10 Plus features a main 12-megapixel rear sensor, coupled with a secondary 8 megapixel resolution, 2x optical zoom, bokeh effect, and Dual-LED flash. For selfies, it takes care of a 8-megapixel front camera. Considering the largest screen size, Sony has equipped the Xperia 10 Plus with a 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone will be available in Navy Blue, Black, Silver and Gold color variations.
Sony Xperia L3 – Specifications
As for the Xperia L3, the smartphone has a vertical double-sided rear camera, 18: 9 aspect ratio and a side fingerprint scanner. The phone is equipped with a 5.7-inch HD screen and runs Android 8 Oreo. Unlike the twin Xperia 10, the Xperia L3 is powered by a MediaTek P22 processor. The phone carries 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage memory.
From cameras, the Sony Xperia L3 features a 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel dual-screen rear camera and an 8 megapixel front. A 3,300 mAh battery keeps your smartphone running. This will be available in silver, black and gold.
Prices and availability
The prices of new phones were not announced at the event. The company, however, announced that the Sony Xperia 1 will be available for purchase in the spring. The Sony Xperia 10, Xperia 10 Plus and Xperia L3 will reach selected markets starting February 25th. All three smartphones will be available in single SIM and dual SIM variants. Sony has announced that the pricing of all devices will be revealed on each market separately, depending on where it will be placed.
